Makenna Slocum

Hello! My name is Makenna Slocum. Animals have been my biggest passion for my entire life. I’ve grown up always having dogs in the household. Ever since I was little, I would try teaching dogs new tricks. Training has always come natural to me when it comes to horses and dogs. I started with training horses and have now been using those same positive reinforcement techniques with dogs.

Working at High Expectations was not an opportunity that I saw coming, but has turned into the best job I’ve ever had! Working under Katie High has been such an amazing experience. I feel very grateful to be able to watch and learn from such a knowledgeable trainer. I currently manage the play during our puppy/dog school programs, teaching them how to play appropriately. I also instruct manners classes as well as in-home private training sessions. I love helping to teach people our training methods and watching them succeed with their pups! Seeing progress and success is so rewarding! Training dogs is so fulfilling because every dog is different and has its own challenges. I love getting to know each dog and working with all the varying personalities and breeds.

At home, I have one dog of my own. He is a young 11-year-old chihuahua named Bruzer. I also work with my boyfriend’s two dogs as if they were my own. They are 2-year-old brother Border Collies named Bo and Koa. While I’m not working with dogs, I’m usually working on my art. I love to draw realistic wildlife with graphite! I also am currently preparing to be a first-time mom! My baby boy is due in August 2020. If there’s one trait of mine I wish for him to have, it’s my strong love and passion for animals!
