Makenna Slocum

Training Instructor

Hello, my name is Makenna Slocum. Animals have always been my biggest passion. As a little kid I would constantly be “training” our family dogs. Whether it was new tricks, or setting up an agility course with broom sticks and flower pots! I’ve always known I would have an animal based career. Out of high school I was training horses. For some time I was riding race horses to become a jockey. After some unfortunate life events, I changed my path and went to school for horse massage. I am now double certified in maintenance and performance equine massage and do have my own business for this!

I have always been someone that can never do just one thing, so why not add dog training into the mix too?! I have my Professional Dog Training certification (CPDT-KA) and recently received my CSDT-1 (Certified Sport Detection Dog Trainer). I started at High Expectations in September of 2019. Believe or not, I used to be a very shy and quiet person! Now I confidently teach many levels of group classes and private lessons. I also play a role in our dog and puppy school program to help teach pups appropriate play.

Aside from work, I have an amazing son, Drew, that will be turning 4 in July 2024. I also have a 2 year old chocolate lab named Otter. He is my hunting lab who I’ve trained to hunt for antler sheds. I also hope to compete in NACSW (National Association of Canine Scent Work) with him! When I’m not spending time with my son or training Otter, you can typically find me practicing shooting my bow or at my desk drawing.
