In this class, you and your dog will work on refining behavior, improving focus, and mastering more advanced commands to help your dog thrive in a variety of real-world situations.
What is the Excellent Manners Class?
This class takes everything you learned in Manners Class and builds upon it. You’ll learn how to enhance your dog’s existing skills by introducing:
- Intermittent reinforcement (rewarding good behavior at varying intervals, making it more reliable over time)
- Duration (holding commands for longer periods)
- Distance (working on commands from farther away)
- Distractions (maintaining focus in challenging environments)
The goal is to create a dog who is not only polite at home but also well-mannered in public, responsive even in exciting or distracting environments, and patient in challenging situations.
New Skills Introduced in Excellent Manners
In addition to refining the skills learned in Manners Class, you’ll teach your dog important new behaviors, including:
- Heel & Heel-Up – Teach your dog to walk calmly by your side, even in busy or distracting environments.
- Look/Watch – Build your dog’s focus and attention on you, so they’re less distracted by what’s going on around them.
- Stay – Strengthen your dog’s ability to remain in one place for longer periods, even when you’re at a distance.
- Long Line Recall – Perfect your dog’s recall on a long leash, so they’ll reliably come back to you from farther away.
- Greets – Teach your dog how to greet people politely without jumping, barking, or pulling.
These new skills, along with the enhanced reinforcement techniques, will help your dog become a well-rounded, confident companion who can handle a variety of real-world situations.
